The tool Video Series: ‘What is…?’ was developed by Mission: Reconnect (Czechia) within the Erasmus+ project SkillCompass: Empowering Youth with Learning Differences through Inclusive Career Guidance Tools.
The purpose of the tool ‘What is…?’ is to explain the following learning difficulties: ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia in clear and accessible language. The aim is to raise public awareness and break negative stereotypes and prejudices that people with learning difficulties may still face.
Even though terms such as ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia are widely used, there is still a lack of understanding about what these terms truly mean. Moreover, people with ADHD, dyslexia, or dysgraphia often face negative labels because others do not understand what it means to have ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, or dysgraphia.
The main purpose of the tool is to explain these terms in understandable language and to share the experiences of people who have ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, or dysgraphia. This helps youth workers, teachers, career counsellors, parents, and friends gain a better understanding of how it might feel and how they can support people who are neurodivergent.
The tool consists of a series of five videos explaining ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia.
Users can:

Individual use
After watching the videos, you can explore more information on the project website or check other resources.
After watching the videos with a group, invite young people to share questions or experiences. This can be done verbally or in writing. Encourage creative expression, such as drawing or making collages. When reflecting on questions or comments, ensure a supportive, inclusive atmosphere free from negative stereotypes or stigma. If a young person asks a question you cannot answer, it is perfectly fine to let them know you will consult an expert.
Tip:To further raise awareness, consider inviting a person with ADHD or dyslexia for a discussion.
After watching the videos, discuss your experiences and challenges with colleagues—for example, challenges faced when working with young people with dyslexia. Brainstorm possible solutions and explore additional resources on the project website, such as the SWOT analysis tool, which can help young people better understand their strengths.
This tool consists of short videos and does not provide scientific explanations.
It is intended for awareness purposes and as a first step in creating a more supportive environment.
