STRENGTH DISCOVERY CARDS

The Strength Discovery Cards are a tool developed by Bulair 20A Ltd (Bulgaria) partner within the  Erasmus+ project SkillCompass: Empowering Youth with Learning Differences through Inclusive Career Guidance Tools.

The tool is designed to help young people with learning and attention differences to recognize and articulate their personal strengths and talents. Instead of focusing on difficulties or limitations, the cards offer a strengths-based reflection processthat builds self-esteem, self-awareness, and motivation.
The tool is suitable for individual work, group activities, and structured use in career guidance contexts..

Purpose of the tool

Young people with learning differences often receive feedback about their challenges while rarely being supported in identifying what they are naturally good at. Many struggle to name their strengths, explain what they can offer, or understand how their abilities can lead to meaningful career paths.

The Strength Discovery Cards address this need by shifting attention from deficits to abilities: cognitive, emotional, social, and practical.The tool encourages users to discover their talents, validate their strengths, and see them as valuable resources in learning, relationships, and future employment.
It can be used by career counselors, educators, and youth workers to foster confidence, self-expression, and a positive mindset toward personal development.

What’s Inside the Tool 

The tool consists of a digital deck of 30 strength cards visually designed to assist the process.

Each card featurs:

  • A strength name written in plain, accessible language.
  • A simple description explaining what the strength looks like in real life.
  • A reflection prompt encouraging users to provide examples from their own experience.
  • A category color marker for easy navigation.

The 30 cards are organized into five categories,each representing core areas of ability common among neurodivergent learners:

  • 1. Creative and Visual Thinking
  • 2. Hands-On and Practical Skills
  • 3. People and Communication Strengths
  • 4. Emotional and Personal Strengths
  • 5. Focus, Curiosity, and Self-Learning

How to Use the Tool

The Strength Discovery Cards can be used:

  • Individually for self-reflection or journaling;
  • In career counseling sessions to help clients articulate abilities and build confidence;
  • In groups or workshops as icebreakers, discussion prompts, or card-matching activities;
  • With parents or educators to support conversations about strengths and learning preferences.
